  • Panda Update (2011)

  • Penguin Update ( 2012)

Purpose: To combat web spam and manipulative link-building practices.

Purpose: To enhance the understanding of search queries, especially conversational searches and semantic meaning.

Purpose: To target low-quality and ad-heavy websites that provide little value to users. 

Impact: Many sites that relied heavily on ads and offered low-quality content experienced ranking drops.

Impact: Allowed Google to better understand the context of words in search queries, enhancing the quality of search results for complex queries.

  • Core Web Vitals (2021):

Purpose: To evaluate user experience based on page loading experience, interactivity, and visual stability.

Impact: Website with better user experience metrics favored in rankings.

  • Page Experience Update (2021):

Purpose: To prioritize the overall user experience as a ranking factor.

Impact: Combined core web vitals with existing ranking signals like mobile-friendliness and HTTPS. 

  • Product Review Update (2021, 2022, 2023): 

Purpose: To reward high-quality product reviews.

Impact:  Encouraged detailed and user-focused product reviews over generic content.

By understanding these updates, website owners can optimize their websites to rank higher in search engine results pages (SERPs). This involves creating high-quality, original content, improving website speed and mobile-friendliness, and building high-quality backlinks.
